Victim Hyun’s family speaks out on Daesung’s accident
Following the unfortunate news of Big Bang Daesung’s accident and motorcyclist Hyun’s (30) death, family members of Hyun gathered today for his funeral.
On the afternoon of June 1st, Hyun’s family gathered at a funeral home in Seoul in remembrance of their beloved family member. The scene was reported to have been sorrowful as siblings, friends and relatives mourned over their loss.
Meanwhile, Hyun’s accident was first revealed through a relative of his, who will be referenced throughout the rest of this article as Person A. Person A agreed to an interview with ‘Dispatch‘ in which he stated, “After I initially got word of the accident, I was extremely shocked… Ever since he [Hyun] was little, I regarded him as my own child. To hear that he left this world at such a young age… my heart broke.”
Hyun’s older brother was also seen at the funeral. He was described as being speechless. His family stated, “He grew up with his younger brother. We brought him here to the funeral home this morning. Hyun was his only sibling so this is a major loss for him.”
It has also been revealed that Hyun’s parents have yet to be informed of their son’s death. The family stated, “His parents’ health is not stable right now. Their health is unstable to the point that everyday tasks are difficult… We think that they will go into shock if they hear about their son’s death, so we have not informed them yet.”
In regards to Daesung’s involvement in the accident, the family stated, “We have seen Daesung on TV a lot and are big fans… While the loss of a family member is hard on us, it breaks our heart to know that a young friend [Daesung] is going through such a hardship right now. We’re not sure what kind of destiny this is.” And while Hyun’s family have not come in contact with Daesung’s side, they added, “We have not come in contact with his people. Neither have they come in contact with us… We have only heard stories from police investigations and insurance companies. Because it is a hard situation for both of us, there has been no business sentiment.”
Hyun’s family also spoke out against current speculations and rumors pertaining to the accident. They said, “The autopsy results have not accurately come out yet. Also, because the CCTV has not been thoroughly evaluated yet, speculations and rumors make the situation harder… We understand that there are various stories being spread regarding the accident; however, we wish that until the results are accurately posted, that everyone will watch the situation quietly.”
As a final response, the family stated, “This whole situation is the only thing on our minds right now. We hope that when the results of the investigation are released, no one becomes victimized, including Daesung. We hope to wrap up this incident with no chagrin; that is our family’s last thoughts.”

[Review] “Shake Ur Body” by Swincle
Swincle is one of 2011’s newest girl groups to hit K-pop, and they issued their debut EP some time ago, titled “Shake Ur Body“, and a lead single of the same name.
Comprised of rapper Mika (21), Jihee (19), main vocal Songhee (22), leader Jisoo (20), and vocal Haeran (21), Swincle has made it clear that they’ve got an affinity for KARA’s musical style and may or may not have dabbled in re-creating some of the girl’s sound in their own EP.
So is that the case in “Shake Ur Body’?
Let’s give it a listen and find out.
===
Track List:
01 Shake Ur Body
02 서있어 (Standing)
03 괜찮아 (I’m Fine)
===
“Shake Ur Body” opens with the title track, where Swincle lay down the most energy on the entire EP. As expected from its name, “Shake Ur Body” is an up-tempo, K-pop-ized number that is high on life and heavy on processing. If KARA is what they’re aiming for, this is definitely present-day KARA with a sprinkle of SISTAR for good measure.
Most of the song is clogged with loads of “da-da-dahh” and “bom, bom, bom” acting almost as a filler for as much dead air as possible, all while attempting to catch a melodic break, which in this case is the entire duration of the song.
The beat of “Shake Ur Body” isn’t as fresh as Swincle may have believed it to be when they vouched for it as a debut single, and with auto-tune up to here, the song comes off as a somewhat lifeless, predicable dance tune that we’ve heard one-too-many times.
But as the EP continues into “Standing“, something interesting happens. Rather than the EP digging its own grave after the sub-par performance of the lead single, this follow-up song allows us to view Swincle from a very different angle, as well as save itself from oblivion in the process.
The pre-chorus/chorus of “Standing” feels like it was taken directly from 2007 K-pop. It has that very timeless chord progression that was so popular back then, and for what it is, Swincle pulled it off pretty well. Unlike the lead single, we get a good sense of the group’s vocals in this song, which aren’t half bad. The only thing pinning this song down is the awful production choices.
First, there’s an unnecessary male ‘voice’ hovering over the better moments of “Standing” that really throws things off-balance. Even more unnecessary is the insertion of one of the screechiest and mind-numbing rap sections in the history of bad K-pop rap sections. The whole thing is just awkward and it’s actually utilized as a verse, which is down right unforgivable of the person behind that decision. It’s a shame, because most of this song shows a lot of promise and the potential to be grand, given Swincle find better producers (Standing).
—
The EP ends with “I’m Fine“, the one ballad and saving grace of “Shake Ur Body”. If any one song was to take me back to KARA’s musical style, it would be this one. But not just KARA; KARA circa 2007 “The First Blooming“, when they were still four members and possessed the best artillery they have ever had – Sunghee.
Comparing anything present-day to “The First Blooming” is stretching it (and blasphemous), because that was quite possibly one of the best things to ever happen to K-pop, but nothing else under KARA’s wings matches what Swincle seem to gravitate toward. Whether they are trying for a KARA concept or not doesn’t really matter, since this sounds like it’s pulled out from that time period anyway.
“I’m Fine” has a very familiar warmth to it. This is a classic example of a song that is driven by a nice pairing of vocals with melody, and done decently well. The lead singer doesn’t have a very forceful voice per se, but because this song is so calm and pretty, the moments when she does let loose, it falls right into place with the feeling of the song. “I’m Fine” brings character and that female Korean pop charm to this EP, whereas the lead single doesn’t.
—
There are some nice voices in Swincle, which is all the more reason to stay far away from over processing them. Unfortunately, it happens anyway, and not in a tasteful manner either.
They haven’t quite come to grips with the right kind of up-tempo song for them, but you can tell that they really want to have that one hit to win over the K-pop fans. Despite that, things on this EP remain too mundane and so-so to stand out.
There are times, however, when Swincle appear to shine through and deliver those glimmers of hope that there may in fact be something good among all the derision of K-pop, and shouldn’t be overlooked. If they refine their style, become more of a unique girl group and less of a KARA copy (not to mention find producers who won’t ruin potentially good songs for them), then Swincle may be one group to look out for.
Oshima Yuko’s first official photobook to look behind cheerful appearance
Oshima Yuko, member of idol group AKB48, is going to release her first officially titled photobook as a member this month and so far it sounds like a must-buy for anyone remotely interested in this young woman and full-time idol.
The book is simply called “Yuko” and will, of course, contain a countless spread of cute and sexy pictures. However, that’s not all as it’s also been reported that she spent more than 10 hours talking about various topics with three of the most important people in her life, resulting in lengthy text passages with more than 20,000 characters.
Some might be surprised that this is actually her first official photobook since joining the idol group, despite being one of the most popular members, but keen fans of Oshima already know that she already released photobooks as a junior idol around 10 years ago.
The main part of the photobook is said to be titled “TRIP to OKINAWA” and was shot with the theme of an intimate vacation with only the two of you in mind. The pictures in this part are said to show an Oshima you have never seen before – cute, erotic, heartrending and simply beautiful. She didn’t try to hide anything from the camera.
Other special passages of the book include a photo-documentary, following Oshima as she returns home to the place where she spent most of her childhood, various snapshots of Oshima with her friends and a self-portrait together with a deep analysis of her inner thoughts. Fans, who are used to see the cheerful and vigorous Oshima most of the time, will be surprised to see a much more reserved side of her in this photobook.
The highlight, as mentioned above, is the very detailed interview where she didn’t just look back at her life so far, but also talked about her future and her part in AKB48 from now on. Furthermore she had some very intriguing discussions with her father, Akimoto Yasushi – her second father in a certain sense, and one of the best friends, fellow member Takahashi Minami.
On her blog, she commented about the book, “Please get to know me even better!”
It should also be noted that several big names, all fans and supporters of Oshima, worked on this photobook, including well-known film-director and documentarian Iwai Shunji, the exceptional photographer Ninagawa Mika and producer Motohiro Katsuyuki (“Bayside Shakedown,” “SP”).
“Yuko” will be released on June 17th and cost 1,200 Yen (around $15).

KAT-TUN 10Q " about new song and some other Q"
Only Star /オリスタ 2011.5.30 issue
There's a crosstalk about the new songs and some questions by readers.
There's a crosstalk about the new songs and some questions by readers.
Your new song “WHITE” is a song which fits a refreshing season perfectly. How was everyone's impression after listening to it for the first time?
Kamenashi: This also goes for listening, but it feels really good singing it. It's a song in unison.
Ueda: The tune has a fresh feeling to it, and it's good that you can see a new side of us, isn't it?
The chorus/climax of the song is straight-forward, but the changes before that have a KAT-TUN feeling to them.
Kamenashi: True, there's a difference.
Tanaka: Plus, it's not like this is our first refreshing song. We sung some for our album, so it didn't feel as strange as everybody might think (laughs).
Nakamaru: But what had been different from before was how we recorded the chorus/climax in advance to be used in a CM. So until shooting the music video, it was without the second chorus and just a short version. Therefore it's a song that was completed step by step.
Kamenashi: Yes yes. Around the end of last year? The first time we heard the song was quite a bit earlier. We shot the music video in February, right? While a lot of things changed, it took a long time until it was completed.
Which means, you also recorded it twice?
Kamenashi: Yes, it might be different for the other members, but I first recorded the climax for the CM.
Nakamaru: Yes, yes.
Kamenashi: But I recorded the whole of the first chorus.
Nakamaru: For me, it feels like I recorded it like three times. With other songs, I first recorded only the chorus, next a part of the first chorus, and lastly the second chorus.
Tanaka: Ah, me too! By the way, wasn't there originally no second chorus? But then it went like, 'Let's make it a song with more meaning to it', so the second chorus got added.
Nakamaru: This time, apart from “White”, “Perfect” also has lyrics like 'doing your best in a new environment'. And “Yuuki no Hana”, which is part of the first press release, in itself became a conscious supporting message.
Kamenashi: It was maybe also new how the nuances changed bit by bit, instead of having decided on everything from the start.
Tanaka: It took about half a year to make it, right.
Taguchi: That's why my hair in the music video is completely different from now (laughs).
The shooting was when it was still cold.
Ueda: It was incredibly cold!
Tanaka: Even though it was very cold, we wearing only one layer because it was a spring release.
Taguchi: It was cold~
Nakamaru: That's why apart from the times we were shooting, everyone was huddled around the heater.
We're getting inside stories (laughs). Image-like it's also a quite rare type of music video for KAT-TUN, feeling kind of nostalgic.
Taguchi: That's right. There wasn't one since “Boku machi” (“Boruka no Machi de”), like that/
Kamenashi: For a story-like one, it's the first having a certain situation.
Taguchi: Like, showing an image of KAT-TUN appearing naturally, as they are.
Taking into account the movements of the camera together with the movements of the members, you probably were rehearsing for it?
Tanaka: Yes, we did it over several times.
Taguchi: But we could do it in about three takes. Because we first carefully rehearsed it.
Kamenashi: I really like this sort of shooting. Like how the point of focus changes one after another. Taguchi, did you appear?
Taguchi: I did!
Tanaka: Eh, and you left?
Taguchi: I did!
What's the theme? (laughs)
Kamenashi: We're getting together in the school we graduated from after a long time, talking about our memories with everyone.
It looks like an international school, right. There are foreign students around.
Kamenashi: It was in a German school, with its normal students. So during break time, the elementary school students came into the school yard and we played soccer together. When I didn't pass the ball, they scolded me really cool (laughs). Like, “Pass there!”
Nakamaru: Ahahahaha! Because German kids are good at soccer, right.
Kamenashi: When the bell rang, they came running into the school yard, and when it rang again, they quickly ran back to the class rooms. There wasn't one child idling around.
Nakamaru: So admirable.
Kamenashi: They just left me with the soccer ball behind, I felt kinda lonely (laughs).
Taguchi: Speaking of that, isn't that in the Making?
Ueda: I didn't go outside at all (laughs).
Regarding the making, you had a lot of requests the last time.
Nakamaru: It was perfect this time.
Taguchi: Yes, it was fun.
Nakamaru: This time, I made a Golden Box again.
Tanaka: Eh, one second. This is about the Golden Box?
Nakamaru: Ah, I just mentioned it for the first time (laughs).
What's the dance like?
Kamenashi: It'll be done from now on. That's why the dance for the other song “Perfect” was decided faster. It's also a song played with a CM, so both as A-Sides should have a similar depth. They are the type of songs where it works to release both together as single.
Nakamaru: Hey, Kame, how do you do that in the CM? (The Aoki 3D Slim)
Kamenashi: With wires.
Nakamaru: Wires! I thought you were doing wall flips.
Taguchi: Yeah, it looks like wall flips.
Nakamaru: I watched it, wondering, “Can Kame really do wall flips?”
The lyrics “Even if this is an endless road, be right on the top” are quite KAT-TUN like.
Nakamaru: They are without a doubt KAT-TUN like. Right now, there are a lot of people trying to do their best, for example students who are currently in the phase of looking for a job. There are quite a few people this song might affect, I think.
Kamenashi: But regarding the singing, this one is more difficult for me than “WHITE”. The lyrics are in katakana, so it's rather easy to sing.
Taguchi: For both songs, the rap is particularly hard this time.
Tanaka: You don't have to do it! (laughs)
Taguchi: Karaoke, karaoke! (laughs)
Kamenashi: I guess this has become an endless worry, but since we usually sing the songs according to our parts, there might be points you don't understand anymore when you sing everything together (in karaoke)?
Tanaka: Like, “Is that what Kame was singing?!”
Nakamaru: I definitely couldn't sing the rap.
Even though you sing and listen to the rap over and over again?
Kamenashi: Because for the other parts, you have a rhythm, and dance to it. Your body is affected by that rhythm. But during the recording, we haven't split it in parts yet, so we sing the whole chorus. There's a difference between singing it with 5 people and having your own parts and those of the others. It's strange.
Taguchi: Well, then let's go to karaoke together next time!
Tanaka: I sing while driving.
Nakamaru: I do that too! And I sing in the bath. Starting where I take off my clothes, I make quite a noise, then get in the bath and out again, until I start the hair dryer. Listening to something the whole time makes me happy. Occasionally also to KAT-TUN songs!
Kamenashi: Do you have a routine for washing your hair during the chorus? (laughs)
Nakamaru: No, not really (laughs).
Do you recently often listen to new songs while driving?
Kamenashi: Maybe. I don't listen to them at home.
Tanaka: I listen to it in the car, but also after returning home.
Ueda: I also listen to them at home.
Please tell us about the dance for “Perfect”. This time it's particularly a dance with everyone together.
Nakamaru: That's why we were strengthening ourselves.
Taguchi: Until I had blisters on my feet, on my big toe.
Ueda: (expressionless) Eh?
Nakamaru: I got one too.
Ueda: Seriously? (laughs)
Taguchi: For how long did we practise?
Kamenashi: Until now we never practised a choreography as long as we did this time. Normally, went like, practising it for about one hour and if you remember it, you were done. But for “Perfect”, it took two days until everyone was together in step. At the beginning we did the choreography for 4-5 hours, and then again for about two hours before Music Station to be sure.
Nakamaru: We also did it with positions, right.
Kamenashi: Yes, we made sure of the formations and everything in detail.
Nakamaru: Compared to first performances you get better, to the point of mastering it, after dancing plenty of times in concerts. It was the same with “Perfect”, because we did the dance quite a lot before your first performance.
Taguchi: My muscles were all sore.
The other two songs, “Yuuki no Hana” and “Silence” still have to be completed, but what are they like?
Kamenashi: “Yuuki no Hana” is a finished song, with which we'd like to send the message that we are also giving our energy. So we sang it, thinking about trying to reach as many people as possible.
Nakamaru: It's a calm song, and touching.
Kamenashi: More than just singing it as “The Ballad” and encouraging through its lyrics, it has a really KAT-TUN-like feeling to it. It's an R&B-ish song with a meaningful message in its lyrics.
So you sing in chorus?
Nakamaru: Yes yes.
Kamenashi: The lyrics too, we completed the song with each member adding their opinion to it, showing them around several times.
Tanaka: We said, this would be the song that's good for playing last at concerts. Because it includes a strong message.
Ueda: In the beginning the lyrics were more like that of a love song. But then we went, 'Wouldn't that be meaningless?'
Kamenashi: It had more of a sense of distance. Instead of that, it turned into its present form to include a message we wanted to convey precisely for the current circumstances.
And “Silence”?
Kamenashi: That's a rock song. After finishing “White”, “Perfect” and “Yuuki no Hana”, we were looking for balance and decided to do a KAT-TUN like song.
Ueda: The title doesn't fit (laughs).
Kamenashi: I think regarding the balance and the message-part of the songs, it's a meaningful single.
Question part for Kame
Q. I'm enjoying the ideas for your solo performances at the concerts every year. What's the most important thing when you're thinking of directions? (Kyoto-fu, 23, female)
The impact it has. And that I won't leave it to the surrounding members. More than thinking about it the whole time, I come up with it when it gets close. Otherwise I cannot decide.
Q. You're appearing in a suits commercial (Aoki 3D slim), but is there a Kame-chan-style of looking good in suits you have? (Niigata-ken, 17, female)
TPO [Depending on Time, Place, Location.]. I recently wear suits a lot, but in the end I like them slim and black.
Q. You're doing the live audio commentary for baseball games, but is there anyone you'd like as a guest, excluding the other members? (Fukuoka-ken, 24, female)
Right now there's no one in particular. I think about the meaning myself and am prepared to ask about obvious things. A person who knows about baseball might think “He doesn't even know these things!” and there also might be people I meet for the first time.
Q. Can you do the change from “Kamenashi Kazuya”, the idol, to “Kamenashi Kazuya”, the Baseball Special Supporter naturally? (Kanagawa-ken, 16, female)
Yes, I do the positioning for each time naturally. I'm doing the part for “Going! Sports and News” and also the one of Kamenashi Kazuya of KAT-TUN with more pleasure than before. This is after all the place for me to be.
Question part for Nakamaru
Q. If you could produce the next KAT-TUN single, what kind of song would you like to do? (Niigata-ken, 19, female)
I'd like to do a cover of a senpai song as b-side. If we did a song by a duo, like Kinki Kids, it would be something new and interesting~
Q. After being a commentator in “Shuuichi”, is there something you started to do or something you're now paying attention to? (Hokkaido, 24, female)
I now look through the articles in newspapers and such more often and more detailed. I think I was receptive to all kinds of news before, but with being in a position where I speak in front of the tv, I'm going all the way to always prepare a lot of news to be able to deal with any kind of topic.
Q. What's your current highly recommended sweets? (Kanawaga-ken, 23, female)
Right now I eat a lot of fruits, oranges or grapefruits at home.
Q. Compared to the time KAT-TUN started, where did you grow up? (Fukuoka-ken, 19, female)
In becoming well-balanced. I think I discovered the borders in which it is possible to act freely by myself.
Q. What helps you the most to recover? (Tochigi-ken, 20, female)
Mister. Even though he's a miniature dachshund, he looks like a schnauzer (laughs), he's my cute child (pet).
Question part for Junno
Q. “Perfect” has supportive lyrics to start a fresh life in spring, but what's something everyone in KAT-TUN would try their best with the start of spring? (Niigata-ken, 18, female)
I still want to play basketball with everyone. I'm currently frequently in touch with Kanjani 8's Yokoyama-kun and since we're talking about playing together, I want to have a match including Yokoyama-kun and so on.
Q. Tell me your “This is perfect!” for “Perfect”. (Fukuoka-ken, 20, female)
I am never late. I definitely show up 10 minutes earlier. But that goes without saying, right.
Q. Taguchi-kun's smile never disappears, but what is the secret of your smile? (Kanagawa-ken, 20, female)
Enjoying everything. No matter how difficult things might get, I'm always positive.
Q. The hairstyle in your drama suits you a lot, but do you have a hairstyle you'd like to do once it's over? (Fukuoka-ken, 24, female)
I also like the current length a lot, so I'm thinking about keeping it like this over the summer.
Q. You're currently playing the role of a doctor, but where is your focus in creating that character? (Kyoto-fu, 21, female)
He's a good and kind person. But this role also sometimes deviates from common sense, which is also a part that resembles me (laughs). He's always aware of speaking in a gentle tone.
Q. Where would you not lose against the other members? (Tokyo-to, 22, female)
Height, cheerfulness. Boke (laughs).
Question part for Ueda
Q. What are you careful about apart from singing? (Nara-ken, 20, female)
What is this? If possible, I don't just want to sing enthusiastically. Because I'm doing all I can to keep the nuances, I'm careful to sing while keeping some reserves.
Q. What is more difficult to write, a ballad or a pop song? (Kanagawa-ken, 16, female)
It's the same, since by changing the arrangements of a ballad, it becomes a pop song. What's actually difficult is a rock song. Because if you make it with a piano, the melody is different.
Q. Tell me about a dream you recently had. (Akita-ken, 17, female)
I dreamt about being eaten by a dog. There was an evolved, giant dog prowling around in the ruins of a city, and it attacked me. The moment it leaned over me, I woke up (laughs). And in reality, there also was my dog close-by.
Q. Is boxing fun? I'd also like to try it, is it something I can do as a girl? (Saitama-ken, 17, female)
It's ok if you do the exercise type, in a cute “One-two ♪” way, but I think it's better when girls don't do it seriously (laughs).
Q. What's your charm point? (Hyogo-ken, 18, female)
My abdominal muscles. Because of my looks, it's a gap and comes as a surprise (laughs).
Q. Of the roles in KAT-TUN, which is the one you couldn't hand over? (Hyogo-ken, 21, female)
There's none! I think there are no particular roles, and we also don't look for them. If I had to say something, I'd choose my liberty.
Question part for Koki
Q. Did it happen to you that you came to a standstill while thinking of a rap? How do you get a fresh start at those times? (Nara-ken, 20, female)
It happens. But since I don't want to compromise, I stop after thinking about it one more time. If it doesn't work after thinking about it for 1-2 hours, I leave it be for another day. Or I don't think of anything until I go to the studio for recording. I put myself in a tight stop and rely on my resilience to get it finished. I can also concentrate then, so this happens rather often.
Q. You're taking care of a lot of pets, but when do you think are cute moments apart from them growing up? (Kanagawa-ken, 16, female)
Whenever they learn to do something, it's a lesson in getting used to me. Just watching how they're playing around, I think, 'how adorable!' (laughs).
Q. What's your charm point? (Hyogo-ken, 18, female)
Eh?! Uhm, in letter from fans they mention that they like the laughter lines in the corner of my eyes, but I don't really think about my charm points. I don't know about that (laughs).
Q. Is there a position you'd want to reach apart from appearing in a variety show? (Tokyo-to, 24, female) [weird question, but it's apparently about doing comedy again]
I haven't decided. It's different depending on the place and people. Speaking of which one, being the one butting in/tsukkomi fits my character better. If I was the boke, I'd regret it later (laughs). Dragging it out, all 'I should have done it more like that~!' A guy like Taguchi who's without doubts would be better suited for that (laughs).=
